The Mechanics Bank Convention Center opened in 1962. The wall paper, window coverings, paint and carpet in the meeting rooms were upgraded in the 1980's. However, the existing carpet in the connecting hallways and rooms is deteriorated and lifting. The wall coverings in the rooms have been damaged and patched and continue to peal off the wall. The window coverings are dated. The ceiling tiles, ceiling and carpet have water damage due to a leaking roof. A new roof restoration system was installed on the convention center this past summer to address roof leaks. Overall, the meeting room conditions reflect negatively on prospective event organizers. Upgrading the meeting rooms will assist the event staff in competing with other modern facilities to book conferences, meeting and trainings, which in turn increase hotel.
