Purchase of a cargo van with a high roof for the Police Department:

 

  1. Accept bid from Jim Burke Ford, Bakersfield ($48,695.27) for a cargo van.
  2. Appropriate $49,000 Equipment Management Fund balance to the Public Works Department’s Operating Budget to fund the purchase.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends acceptance of the bid and approval of the appropriation.
BACKGROUND:

Bids were solicited for a cargo van with a high roof for the Police Department crime lab. One bid for $49,695.27 was received from Jim Burke Ford, Bakersfield.

This cargo van will replace a unit that is 20 years old and is in need of transmission repair. Due to the cost of the needed repairs and the equipment exceeding its life expectancy, it is not economically feasible to proceed with repairs.

Staff recommends appropriation of $49,000 Equipment fund balance for this purchase. Of this amount, $26,796 has been recovered through fleet rental rates. The difference of $21,899.27 will be recouped within the Equipment Management Fund through future fleet rental rates.

Staff finds the bid submitted by Jim Burke Ford to be acceptable and recommends approval of the purchase and appropriation of funds necessary to complete the purchase.
