TO: | Honorable Mayor and City Council | FROM: | Nick Fidler, Public Works Director | DATE: | 5/7/2020 | WARD: | Ward 2 | SUBJECT: | Accept bid and approve contract with JTS Construction ($267,500) for Convention Center Concrete Flooring Reconstruction. | STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends acceptance of low bid and approval of contract. | BACKGROUND:
The concrete flooring at the backstage auditorium of the Convention Center has cracks and uneven surfaces, which were caused by the use of heavy equipment within the area. This project consists of demolishing the existing concrete, constructing new concrete with rebar, installing speed dowel and applying a polished coat to the final concrete flooring. This project will replace sections of the convention center floor that are over 57 years old. Upon completion, the new floor will offer a safe and enhanced user experience, which is anticipated to increase the number of events held at the convention center.
The engineer's estimate for this project is $378,000. The funding for this project is from the Bakersfield Public Safety and Vital Services Measure.
