SUBJECT:Accept bid and approve contract with Cen-Cal Construction ($191,000) for Pedestrian Improvements: Various Locations - Brundage Lane between Myrtle Street to Pine Street; L Street between 17th Street to 22nd Street.

Staff recommends acceptance of low bid and approval of contract.

This project consists of modifying existing paths of travel and making pedestrian improvements along Brundage Lane from Myrtle Street to Pine Street and L Street from 17th Street to 22nd Street. The project purpose is to provide ADA accessible walkways in areas that either have existing barrier curbs or access ramps that do not comply with the current ADA standards. The work also consists of demolishing existing curb ramps and constructing sidewalks and new ADA accessible ramps with truncated domes, construction of curb & gutter and cross gutters.


This project is 100% funded through the Transportation Development Act, which are funds provided by the Kern Council of Governments.


The engineer's estimate for this project is $283,000.00


On June 2, 2020, the City received four bids for this project. All four of those bids were deemed acceptable. Those acceptable bids are as follows:

Since these are local funds provided through KernCOG there is no general fund impact associated with the award of this contract.
